First Thursday• April 6 • Jazz Night • 5-9pm
On the First Thursday of every month, participating tenant artists in the Casket Arts Building and the Carriage House open their studio doors from 5-9pm. This month, they will be joined by some great local jazz musicians:
• The Dakota Combo with Adam Linz: 5:30 & 7:30 on the 4th Floor Stage. This is a metro-area, all-star high school modern jazz band led by bassist Adam Linz of the MacPhail Center for Music.
• Larry McDonough & Carol Bergquist: 6:30 in the 1st Floor Dead End Lounge. Locally renowned jazz pianist Larry McDonough and flute player Carol Bergquist will be playing some of the tunes from Larry's album "Tuscarora," inspired by a lake in northern MN, with CDs for sale in Studio 116.
Stop in to load up on some jazz and food from Gastro Truck and see what our talented tenants are making in their studios!
Casket Arts Community 2017 Calendar
The Casket Arts Community houses three of the newest old factory buildings in Northeast Minneapolis, plus the Franconia in the City Sculpture Park. The three historic structures - the Casket Arts Building, the Carriage House and the Factory, were converted to studios in 2006. The structures are stunning - aged brick, century old wood floors, cast concrete, ancient iron and steel. All the buildings have been beautifully restored to maintain their historic character.
Over 140 artists and art-based businesses inhabit the Casket Arts Community. Most of its tenants run full-time working studios, but open their work spaces for First Thursdays every month as well as for Art-a-Whirl, Open Casket and many other exhibits and showings throughout the year.
