Andrea Canter

As an acrylic and mixed media artist, my inspiration comes from the sounds of music, the natural world, and urban remnants of gentrification. My abstract imagery stimulates the imagination through my use of altered perspectives, light, shadow, paint, paper and found materials. Particularly, I work with layers--layers of light, paper, paint or, more figuratively, layers of emotion and meaning. I typically approach the canvas or panel with a vague plan--usually a color palette, specific tools, and the physical and emotional tactics in mind, and let each stroke, each drip, each movement inspire the next. In addition to my “urban” abstracts, I’ve been working more lately on my “Abstract by Nature” portfolio.
